Family Child Behaviour Clinic

Our experience includes teaching, researching and practicing clinical psychology; our overarching value is that treatment must fit the client.

Treatment - The Sydney Psychology Practice

The Family Child Behaviour Clinic supports children, adolescents and families with a wide range of social, emotional and behavioural concerns. This may include anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation, behavioural difficulties, oppositional behaviour, Autism, ADHD, developmental concerns, child protection issues, foster care and out-of-home care. The clinic uses evidence-based approaches and begins with a careful assessment to understand each child or young person’s needs, strengths and family context. You can find more information about the common psychological concerns we treat.

Support is tailored to each family. Depending on the child’s age and situation, therapy may involve working directly with the child or adolescent, supporting parents and carers, or a combination of both. Parents and carers are often central to change, as relationships, routines and everyday habits strongly influence a child’s development. The clinic helps families build practical strategies that can support emotional wellbeing, improve behaviour, strengthen relationships and promote healthy development over time.

Dr John McAloon’s work with parents and families is multifaceted. Typically, children are not seen as clients in their own right. Parents are the focus as they have the most meaningful relationships with their children and evidence shows us they are best placed to implement changes to the child’s developmental environment. John also sees adolescents, however it would be rare that parents are not involved in some way in adolescent work.

Dr Shiraze Bulsara supports older adolescents (16+) experiencing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, low mood, stress, adjustment difficulties and more complex presentations.

Prior to treatment commencing, we will arrange a time to have a brief discussion with prospective clients. This allows us to understand what has prompted your contact and gives you the opportunity to ask us questions, to ensure the best fit possible. If you would like to arrange a free 15-minute discussion, please contact us.
